Electrical and Mechanical Upgrades: Pool Systems

What can be done to save energy besides lighting?  Lots of stuff!  If it heats, cools, modulates or can be turned on or off, then SmartWatt Energy can help make it more energy efficient!  This post is part of a series detailing systems and areas where potential energy savings can be found in your commercial or industrial facility.  If you’re interested in a comprehensive energy efficiency solution for your facility, contact us to learn more about a complimentary energy analysis.

Pool Systems

Indoor swimming pools typically have higher energy costs than outdoor pools since they are usually open year-round, do not receive heat from the sun and require ventilation systems to reduce humidity levels that may cause damage to structural components.

Where can we save energy?  For these types of facilities pool covers are important in conserving pool heat and reducing ventilation requirements.  Heat recovery units can be installed in the ventilation system to salvage the heat from ventilating air.  Dehumidification systems can be installed to reduce the amount of ventilation needed.  All of these measures can help improve the comfort and indoor air quality while reducing energy costs.

Pools also dissipate chlorine into the air, wasting the chlorine.  Systems can be installed that recapture this chlorine and put it back into the pool, thereby allowing you to use less chlorine.
