June 18, 2013—Nashville, TN—The International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW) Southeast Chapter has re-elected Danielle Marquis, SmartWatt Energy’s Marketing Director, to their Board of Directors. The two-year term of Marquis and the other newly elected board members will begin in September 2013. She will continue her focus on chapter sponsorships and event planning within the board.

Central New York Property Management Firm Saves $3,994 Per Month After Exterior LED Lighting Upgrades Through the National Grid Small Business Services Program

Syracuse, NY—June 11, 2013—Carlton Management, LLC, a multi-family residential and commercial property management firm, reduced its annual energy consumption by 431,059 kWh after implementing exterior LED lighting upgrades to seven apartment complexes and four shopping plaza properties in Central New York. The lighting upgrades were completed by SmartWatt Energy via the National Grid Small Business Services Program and are expected to save the company $3,994 per month in energy costs.

SmartWatt Energy performed a complimentary energy analysis of all outdoor lighting, and proposed a plan to replace the existing inefficient exterior parking lot, building, and canopy lighting systems with energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures throughout 11 of Carlton Management’s properties. These exterior LED lighting upgrades came with a National Grid incentive of $108,384 and, according to National Grid, are expected to pay for themselves in approximately 24 months. This energy savings project, designed to remove pollutants from the air, is expected to provide the same benefit to the environment as planting 7,798 trees, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations.

SmartWatt Energy is the administrator and implementation contractor for National Grid’s Small Business Services Program in Central and Northern New York. The National Grid Small Business Services Program helps businesses with an average peak demand of 100 kW or less per month conduct energy-efficient upgrade measures. Through this program, SmartWatt Energy will provide a complimentary energy analysis, and National Grid will pay up to 70 percent of the installation costs completed by SmartWatt Energy and finance the remaining amount interest-free for up to two years.

Burlington, VT—June 6, 2013—SmartWatt Energy, recently named the sole administrator and implementation contractor for Efficiency Vermont’s LED Upgrade Program, is pleased to announce the promotion of Shawn McDonnell to Program Manager and addition of Allen Frey as an Energy Sales Auditor. Both employees work in SmartWatt’s Utility Program Division at their new Burlington, VT office.

“Efficiency Vermont’s LED Upgrade Program has gotten off to a great start and we have experienced tremendous interest from the local business community,” said Matt Cinquanti, SmartWatt’s Vice President of Utility Programs. “Shawn’s industry experience and Allen’s background have proved to be great additions to our team.”

Shawn McDonnell most recently held the position of Project Development Engineer in SmartWatt’s Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Division for the Buffalo, NY region. While holding this position, he was successful in developing the territory and managing and engineering energy-efficient lighting and lighting control upgrade projects for numerous local and national account customers. Prior to this, Shawn was a Program Manager and top-performing Energy Sales Auditor for an energy services company in Western and Central New York. As Program Manager for Efficiency Vermont’s LED Upgrade Program, he will oversee and lead the program team throughout all aspects of energy-efficiency upgrade projects and be responsible for meeting sales, revenue and energy savings goals.

Allen Frey has worked in sales for more than 14 years, most recently as a Northeast Sales Coordinator for Component Distributors. In this role, he was responsible for identifying, developing and establishing market strategies targeted towards growing the company’s customer accounts. Prior to this, Allen was a Regional Account Manager at Huber & Suhner, Inc., where he coordinated and trained sales staff and managed key partner relationships. He has also held the positions of Distribution Sales Coordinator, Key Account Coordinator and Inside Sales Representative for Huber & Suhner, Inc. Allen graduated from Johnson State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, with a minor is Sales and Marketing. The Great Divide Reduces Energy Consumption with the Black Hills Energy Small & Medium Business Direct Install Program

Pueblo, CO—June 4, 2013—The Great Divide of Pueblo, CO, has dramatically reduced its energy usage and environmental impact as a result of energy-efficient lighting upgrades at its business. The lighting upgrades, completed by SmartWatt Energy via the Black Hills Energy Small & Medium Business Direct Install Program, have reduced The Great Divide’s energy consumption by 17,809 kWh, which is equivalent to removing 27,701 pounds of carbon dioxide from the environment per year.

SmartWatt Energy conducted an energy evaluation of all interior lighting systems in The Great Divide’s retail and service shop and then engineered a solution to replace the existing lighting systems with high-efficiency fluorescent lighting fixtures. In addition to improving the quality and quantity of the store’s lighting, the new lighting system has resulted in $194 in monthly energy savings and a Black Hills Energy rebate of $4,022.

The Black Hills Energy Small & Medium Business Direct Install Program provides a rebate of up to 60% to help businesses with an average demand use of 350 kW or less per month conduct energy-efficiency upgrades. SmartWatt Energy, the administrator and implementation contractor for the program, provides a free energy evaluation, recommended energy-efficiency upgrade measures and interest-free financing for the businesses’ remaining portion of the costs.

Apartments Requiring Income Qualification Can Become More Energy-Efficient with Help from PPL Electric Utilities and SmartWatt Energy

Wilkes-Barre, PA – May 31, 2013 – More than 8,000 income qualified residents could receive energy efficiency upgrades, thanks to a new program from PPL Electric Utilities, administered by SmartWatt Energy, in coordination with multifamily building owners.

The program is designed to help qualifying building owners make affordable investments in new, energy-efficient appliances and lighting that will help them lower their electricity costs. Qualified properties are nonprofit, income qualified, master-metered facilities in eastern and central Pennsylvania that are served by PPL Electric Utilities.

“Many apartments for income qualified individuals have older appliances and lighting fixtures that use more energy and cost more to operate than today’s more efficient models,” said Tom Stathos, director of Customer Programs & Services for PPL Electric Utilities. “Energy efficiency upgrades can improve tenant comfort while reducing maintenance costs for building owners,” he said.

Scheduled to launch June 1, the Master-Metered Apartment Program will offer a free energy analysis, some energy efficiency measures that are installed at no cost in the tenant apartments, rebates for various upgrades to common areas and residential units, and interest-free financing. About 100 properties across the PPL Electric Utilities service territory are expected to qualify for the program. SmartWatt Energy’s office in Moosic, Pa., will coordinate the program’s implementation and contact qualified property owners to assist in their participation. Details on this, and other energy efficiency programs, will be available on the PPL Electric Utilities website (pplelectric.com) after June 1.

“PPL Electric Utilities’ Master-Metered Apartment Program includes a wide selection of energy efficiency measures for low-income housing owners, designed to make participation easy for customers,” said Matt Cinquanti, Vice President of Utility Programs at SmartWatt Energy. “Direct install energy efficiency programs like this allow building owners to make significant energy efficiency improvements with little capital investment and interest-free financing. We look forward to working with a customer service leader like PPL Electric Utilities to deliver this service. ”

The program is being offered as part of PPL Electric Utilities’ Act 129 Energy Efficiency & Conservation plan approved earlier this year by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. The plan is intended to help customers become more energy efficient and reduce their electricity bills.

FedEx Express Wins Environmental Excellence Award

In April, the Port of Seattle Commission presented FedEx with the Green Gateway Environmental Excellence Award. This award recognizes their environmental efforts at the site, including the replacement of over 500 lighting fixtures with energy efficiency fixtures and sensors by SmartWatt Energy. The environmental impact of this project is equivalent to removing 51 cars from the road or planting 78 acres of trees. FedEx Express has retrofitted 112 stations, 24 airports and 5 hubs. Syracuse, NY—May 7, 2013—Empower Federal Credit Union, a Central New York–based bank, is saving $2,745 per month after exterior LED lighting upgrades at seven of its branches. The lighting upgrades, preformed by SmartWatt Energy, yielded a $69,161 rebate through the National Grid Small Business Services Program.

SmartWatt Energy completed a complimentary energy analysis of all outdoor lighting and proposed a plan to replace the lighting at Empower Federal Credit Union’s existing exterior parking lot, building and drive-through canopy with energy-efficient LEDs throughout the seven branches. According to National Grid, the entire project will have an average payback period of 14 months. In addition to dramatic improvements to exterior lighting quality, the energy savings project is estimated to provide the same benefit to the environment as planting 5,359 trees or recycling 78.3 tons of waste per year, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations.

SmartWatt Energy is the administrator and implementation contractor for National Grid’s Small Business Services Program in Central and Northern New York. The National Grid Small Business Services Program helps businesses with an average peak demand of 100 kW or less per month conduct energy-efficient upgrade measures. Through this program, SmartWatt Energy will provide a complimentary energy analysis. National Grid will pay up to 70 percent of the installation costs completed by SmartWatt Energy, and finance the remaining amount interest-free for up to two years.

Albany, NY—April 30, 2013—Sustainability and green initiatives are all the rage, but are they profitable? And, furthermore, is there any way to leverage those projects for business development purposes?

It’s no secret that energy-efficiency initiatives can help a public refrigerated warehouse (PRW) save energy, while reducing maintenance and energy costs. It’s also no secret that PRW customers are developing their own sustainability programs and establishing sustainability benchmarks they expect suppliers and partners to contribute towards. Some PRWs are beginning to see the benefit in leveraging their energy-efficiency initiatives for brand-building purposes in an effort to attract or retain customers. By completing energy-efficiency projects and branding themselves as a sustainable PRW, International Association of Refrigerated Warehouse (IARW) and World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO) members can derive a business development benefit in addition to their reduced maintenance and energy costs. Dallas, TX—April 23, 2013—SmartWatt Energy, a leader in commercial energy efficiency program management for utilities, will be presenting and exhibiting at the Association of Energy Services Professionals’ (AESP) 2013 Spring Conference & Expo at The Westin Galleria Dallas in Dallas, TX on April 29^th to May 1^st.

The Pueblo Latino Chamber of Commerce Receives $1,730 Rebate from Black Hills Energy for Energy-Efficiency Upgrades

Pueblo, CO—April 16, 2013—The Pueblo Latino Chamber of Commerce received a $1,730 rebate from Black Hills Energy and is saving approximately $98 per month in energy costs after upgrading to energy-efficient interior and exterior lighting at its office in Pueblo. The lighting upgrades were completed by SmartWatt Energy, Inc., through the Black Hills Energy Small & Medium Business Direct Install Program.

This program helps businesses with an average demand use of 350 kW or less per month become more energy efficient. As administrator and implementation contractor for the program, SmartWatt Energy provides a free energy evaluation and interest-free financing, while Black Hills Energy pays up to 60 percent of the installation costs.

“The Black Hills Energy Small & Medium Business Direct Install Program has helped significantly reduce our energy usage and costs,” said Sandy Gutierrez, president and chief executive officer of the Pueblo Latino Chamber of Commerce. “We are thrilled to be able to refer our members to the program so that they can enjoy the same opportunities.”

SmartWatt Energy performed an energy evaluation of all lighting systems at the Latino Chamber’s offices, then proposed a plan to replace the existing fluorescent and metal halide lighting fixtures with high-efficiency fluorescents in interior areas and LEDs throughout exterior areas. These lighting upgrades are expected to pay for themselves in only 11 months. This energy savings project, designed to remove pollutants from the air, is expected to provide the same benefit to the environment as planting 153 trees, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations.

Whitney most recently held the position of Marketing Executive at Six Degrees Marketing, where she was responsible for managing and organizing marketing campaigns from inception to completion and for updating and monitoring of the company’s website. Prior to this, she was an Advertising Sales Consultant at the Post-Star Newspaper, where she was heavily involved in customer relationship management, developing campaign-management tools to elevate client satisfaction and for the training and mentoring of new team members. Whitney graduated from the State University of New York College at Brockport with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Marketing.

Prior to joining SmartWatt Energy, Marissa worked as a Staffing Coordinator for Medical Staffing Network. In this role, she performed administrative and clerical tasks, maintained and reviewed employee files, processed daily and weekly payroll reports and screened and evaluated prospective employees. She has also held the position of Customer Service Representative at Wegmans Food Markets, where she was responsible for receiving and directing customer calls and responding to customer questions and requests. Marissa graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and minor in Athletic Coaching.

SmartWatt Energy Continues to Expand Commercial, Industrial & Institutional Division, Adds Staff

Albany, NY—April 9, 2013—SmartWatt Energyis pleased to announce that Greg Royer, Jason Sellie and Chad Sydor have joined the company’s corporate office in Albany, NY as a Project Developer, a Project Manager—Multi-Measure Group and a Construction Manager, respectively.

SmartWatt Energy is a leading nationwide turnkey energy-efficiency firm providing solutions to commercial, industrial, institutional and utility customers. With the addition of multiple large-scale national accounts and a growing demand for multi-measure energy-efficiency solutions, the company has added staff to its corporate office.

Greg has worked in the energy services industry for more than eight years, most recently as a Commercial Project Developer at Zerodraft. In this role he was responsible for new customer generation, performing feasibility studies and conducting energy assessments for the company’s large commercial and industrial clients. Prior to this, he was a Business Development Executive for Atlantic Energy Solutions where he was successful in generating and managed performance contracts for institutional clients. Greg has also held the position of Account Manager for ECG, where he conducted multi-measure energy evaluations and developed energy-efficiency projects for k-12 schools, colleges and universities. As Project Developer, Greg will be responsible for identifying and developing new customers within the company’s Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Division. He will work closely with lighting and mechanical engineering staff in the design, development and installation of multi-measure energy-efficiency projects.

Jason most recently held the position of Regional Sales Engineer for Nooney Controls, where he was responsible for maintaining and expanding the company’s existing customer-base and for the engineering and design of mechanical control projects. Prior to this, he was an Application Engineer for Atlas Copco Comptec’s Gas & Process Division. In this role, Jason developed engineering designs for compressor systems based on client specifications and served as project manager in the implementation of these projects. He has also held the roles of Project Manager, Substrate Manager and Process Engineer for SuperPower, Inc. Jason graduated from SUNY Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. As Project Manager in the company’s multi-measure engineering group, he will be responsible for managing the installation of multi-measure projects.

Prior to joining SmartWatt Energy, Chad worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance Group as a Claims Specialist and Claims Team Manager, where he utilized lean-based management and problem solving techniques to effectively manage a team of employees through individual and team-based projects. Prior to this, Chad worked as an Automobile Technician and Mechanic for Zenek’s Auto Sales. He graduated from Clarkson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and is currently attending Hudson Valley Community College to obtain a degree in Electrical Construction and Maintenance. As Construction Manager, Chad will be responsible for working closely with Project Management and Engineering staff during the development of energy-efficient lighting projects and for the coordination and management of SmartWatt Energy’s Technicians in the implementation and installation phases of these projects.
