Sacramento, CA—May 15, 2012—SmartWatt Energy announced a partnership today with Figtree Energy Resource Company to offer Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Financing to their large commercial customers in California. The financing can be used to pay for turnkey energy-efficiency upgrade projects, allowing commercial property owners to save on energy bills and achieve sustainability goals at no upfront cost.
PACE Financing provides up to 100% of the capital required for energy improvement projects at a fixed interest rate for up to 20 years, thereby eliminating lengthy payback periods and providing immediate cash flow benefits. PACE Financing is a land-secured municipal finance program where loan payments are repaid through the property tax bill. The charge appears as a line item on the tax bill and does not increase regular property taxes. The balance of the loan transfers to the next property owner if the property is sold before the loan is paid off, with no “due upon sale” requirements.
“We are excited to offer PACE Financing to our customers in California—they’ll be in a better position to make comprehensive energy-efficiency improvements to their facilities that will reduce energy costs and result in a positive environmental impact,” explained Chris Covell, President of SmartWatt Energy. “We’re looking forward to a long-term relationship with Figtree and plan to work with them in additional locations as PACE Financing is adopted by more municipalities nationwide.”
PACE Financing provides the following simplified qualifications for financing approval: no personal guarantee, not based on credit score, no money down, property owner must be current on property tax and mortgage(s), property owner must not be in bankruptcy and property owner must not owe more on mortgage than the property is worth (i.e., the property cannot be underwater). Figtree Energy Resource Company manages the financing process from application to disbursement of funds and will integrate directly with SmartWatt Energy to share financing and technical skills for maximum customer benefit.

Albany, NY—March 7, 2012—SmartWatt Energy announced today a record savings of 37,900 MWh in the National Grid Small Business Direct Install Program. Since the inception of the program in 2009, National Grid has assisted over 12,000 small businesses with incentives totaling $58 million towards small business energy efficiency projects. As a result, small businesses have reduced their energy usage by 242 million kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to approximately $26 million in savings. SmartWatt’s performance in 2011 surpassed all savings goals set by National Grid.
“We are proud of the energy efficiency milestones SmartWatt Energy’s team has been able to extend to the New York small business community,” explained Kathy George, Program Director for National Grid. “We admire the staff’s innovative contributions and their ongoing dedication to the success of the Program in New York.”
National Grid awarded SmartWatt the Central New York Small Business Direct Install Program territory in 2009, and by 2011, the company was awarded additional territory in Northern New York. They’ve completed more than 2,100 small business energy efficiency projects in 2011, saving local small businesses large amounts of money, while helping the environment. Examples of these small business customers include parking garages, schools, gas stations, convenience stores, offices, and retail stores.
“SmartWatt Energy is very proud to reach these ambitious savings goals in our National Grid territories,” said Matt Cinquanti, Vice President of Utility Programs for SmartWatt Energy. “This took a tremendous amount of effort, hard work and dedication from SmartWatt and National Grid. We intend to continue this momentum and do our part to ensure National Grid achieves all NY EEPS 2015 goals. SmartWatt is committed to constant improvement.”
The National Grid Small Business Program helps businesses, with an average peak demand of 100 kW or less per month, upgrade to energy-efficient lighting. Through this program, National Grid will pay up to 70 percent of the installation costs and finance the remaining amount interest-free for up to two years.

Chicago, IL—February 29, 2012—SmartWatt Energy has helped NOR-AM Cold Storage Logistics achieve savings of 218,761 kilowatt hours at their facility in Schuyler, NE after a LED lighting retrofit.
Representatives from Cornhusker Public Power District were at NOR-AM on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 to present a $24,016.08 incentive check for the energy efficient lighting upgrades. The funds are made possible through the EnergyWise program offered by Cornhusker Power partnered with its power supplier, Nebraska Public Power District.
“Upgrading technology and generating energy savings is a win-win situation,” said David Johnson, Plant Manager for NOR-AM Cold Storage Logistics. “The improvements are estimated to save more than $14,132 annually, which would pay for the project in 4 years.”
SmartWatt Energy’s engineering team completed a detailed energy audit (DEA) at the facility, then proposed improvements which included 109 lights being retrofitted, a majority of which were metal halides, to LEDs. Occupancy sensors were added to most of the lights, resulting in additional energy savings. LED lighting technology introduces very little heat into the facility, which is an added benefit for cold storage facilities and results in additional “coincidence cooling.”
“Our goal is to support our customers to become more efficient,” said Karen Schlautman, Marketing Director for Cornhusker Public Power District. “Lighting technologies developed during the past 10 years can help cut lighting costs 30 to 60 percent, while enhancing lighting quality and reducing environmental impacts.”
According to EPA estimates, the energy savings solution designed by SmartWatt Energy for NOR-AM Cold Storage Logistics will save the equivalent of 151 metric tons of Carbon Dioxide, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered annually by 32.2 acres of pine forests.

Albany, NY—February 21, 2012—Albany Medical Center, the only academic health sciences center in Eastern New York and Western New England is saving more than $200,000 per year in total utility costs after a lighting retrofit installed by SmartWatt Energy, a nationwide energy efficiency firm headquartered in Albany, NY. The new energy efficient lighting will save 2,006,283 kWh of electricity per year.
Albany Medical Center received a grant for $759,608 to fund this project under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which allowed the project to be completed with essentially no out of pocket cost. ARRA funding was established to save and create jobs, spur economic activity and encourage investments towards long-term growth in the United States. The Act provides funding for investments in infrastructure, education, health, and energy.
SmartWatt Energy conducted a construction-grade energy audit of various Albany Medical Center buildings throughout New York’s Capital Region, including: clinics, garages, offices and teaching buildings, then engineered a solution to replace the existing High Intensity Discharge (HID) and T-12 fluorescent lighting system with an energy-efficient T-5 and T-8 fluorescent lighting system. T-12 fluorescent lighting will be phased out of production by July 2012, making the replacement a timely project.
“Albany Medical Center was one of the largest projects we’ve completed here in the Capital District, and more indicative of the national accounts projects this office engineers throughout the country,” explained Matt Sorbero, General Manager of SmartWatt Energy’s Albany, NY office. “We expect to complete more comprehensive energy-efficiency projects of this magnitude in the area in 2012, since our mechanical engineering group is now headquartered in this office.”
The Albany Medical Center energy savings project has removed pollutants from the air and will have the same effect on the environment as removing 3,046,931 pounds of Carbon Dioxide or planting 446 acres of trees. SmartWatt Energy has hired aggressively in the Capital District over the last year to support the increased demand for energy efficiency projects in the area.
